Mode Confidence CORE R-OLD R-OTHER PROXY Exam pattern
STANDARD MEDIUM (3 papers; the 7 related MAKAUT papers widen scope but don't raise confidence in how often) 3 papers: 2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25 (IT; 2023-24 and 2024-25 also print the twin codes OECDS 701C / OECICB701A, L19) none 7 MAKAUT papers: CE(OE)802A × 3 (2022-23 … 2024-25), OE-EC506A × 4 (2022-23 … 2025-26) none 70 marks · A: any 10 of 12 × 1 · B: any 3 of 5 × 5 · C: any 3 of 5 × 15 (printed paper = 112 marks incl. choices)

Key insights

  1. Unit 2 is the biggest block, but every unit appears every year. Across the three papers:

    • Unit 2 (Communication, Public speaking, GD, NVC, Teams and Leadership): 150 marks (45%)
    • Unit 1 (Soft skills, Self-discovery, Positivity and Motivation): 112 (33%)
    • Unit 3 (Interview, Presentation, Etiquette, Time, Personality): 74 (22%)

    All three units are asked in 3/3 papers. Unit 2 swung 36% → 57%, Unit 1 24% → 41%, Unit 3 18% → 29%.

  2. Motivation theories are the anchor of the paper. 1.11 Other theories (37 marks, the top topic) and 1.10 Maslow (16) are both asked in 3/3 papers. Every paper had a full Group C question on them:

    • 2022-23 Q11: Maslow life-tree
    • 2023-24 Q7: any three theories
    • 2024-25 Q8: the different theories

1-markers keep asking who proposed which theory (need, hygiene, self-actualization).

  3. Non-verbal communication and the communication process are next. 2.11 NVC (33 marks, 3/3 papers) and 2.1 Communication process, models and channels (24 marks, 3/3) are the biggest Unit 2 topics. Both also keep returning as ⚡ one-liners: paralinguistics, oculesics, proxemics, grapevine, Lasswell, mass communication.

  4. Rotation fits so far, but the evidence is thin (L25): 6 of 6 calls correct, only 6 calls → "weak". Next-exam outlook:

    • Unit 2 ↑ likely UP: it fell to 36% in 2024-25 vs a 45% average.
    • Unit 3 ↓ likely DOWN: 29% vs 22%.
    • Unit 1 → steady: 35% vs 33%.
  5. This paper rewords more than it recycles. 2023-24 re-asked 5 questions (4% of its marks) and 2024-25 re-asked 3 (24%, mostly the motivation-theories Group C). Only 8 families have appeared in 2+ CORE papers. So syllabus-wide preparation matters more here than memorising past answers.

  6. It's a theory paper with two "applied" asks. Theory carries 60% of the marks, Process 9%, Case 9%, Difference 7% and Diagram 6%. The two Case questions are full Group C: 2023-24 Q8 (write your CV for Infosys) and 2022-23 Q11 (as CEO of Google, apply Maslow to your life). One-liners (Objective + Definition) are 10%.

  7. A compact core, and 9 never-asked topics that the related papers fill in. 7 topics → 50%, 11 → 70%, 14 → 80%, 18 → 90% of all marks (out of 35).

    • Never asked in CORE: 1.3, 1.8, 1.9, 1.12, 2.4, 2.5, 2.7, 3.1, 3.6.
    • Six of these are asked often in the CE/EC papers: 2.7 Conflict (17 R-OTHER rows), 1.8 Negativity / stress (11), 1.12 Enhancing motivation (11), 1.9 Motivation meaning (10), 1.3 SWOT (7), 3.6 Impression management (6).
    • Leadership (2.13) has the most CE/EC rows of all (27).

R-OTHER rows never change the tiers, but the blueprint will size these topics' outlines from them.

Attack plan (priority order, never a skip list)

  1. Tier S first (15 topics), with a light tilt towards Unit 2 (L25: the back-test is weak, so this only orders topics within the tier):

    • ↑ Unit 2: 2.11 Non-verbal communication · 2.1 Communication process, models and channels · 2.8 Public speaking · 2.9 Group discussion · 2.10 GD techniques · 2.12 Teams and team building
    • → Unit 1: 1.11 Theories of motivation · 1.10 Maslow · 1.6 Attitude · 1.2 Soft-skill development and measurement · 1.7 Positive thinking · 1.1 Soft skills: definition and significance · 1.5 Beliefs, values and virtue
    • ↓ Unit 3: 3.5 Presentation delivery · 3.3 CV and cover letter
  2. Every repeated family + the ⚡ facts.

    • The 8 CORE-repeated families: F-1.11-01 theories · F-2.1-01 process model · F-2.8-01 3Ps · F-2.8-02 public-speaking methods / tips · F-1.2-01 measuring soft skills · F-1.1-01 importance of soft skills · F-2.12-01 team building · F-1.11-04 who proposed which theory.
    • The Group A facts that keep returning: topics 1.1, 1.6, 1.11, 2.1, 2.8, 2.9, 2.11.
  3. Tier A, same tilt:

    • ↑ U2: 2.13 Leadership (manager vs leader, managerial grid) · 2.3 Interpersonal relations · 2.6 Corporate communication styles
    • ↓ U3: 3.4 Presentation types, content and audience · 3.2 Before / during / after the interview · 3.7 Time management · 3.9 Personality stages and models · 3.10 Learning and adaptability · 3.8 Personality: meaning and determinants
  4. Per-unit floor check (L15): each unit's must-dos are already S. U1: 1.10, 1.11 · U2: 2.11, 2.1 · U3: 3.5, 3.3.

  5. Then tier B, Unit 2 first: 2.2 Barriers (including cross-cultural) → 1.4 Setting goals (SMART).

  6. Then tier C (never asked in CORE yet), same tilt:

    • ↑ U2: 2.7 Conflict management · 2.4 Listening · 2.5 Formal writing
    • → U1: 1.9 Motivation meaning and types · 1.12 Enhancing motivation · 1.3 Self-discovery and SWOT · 1.8 Driving out negativity and stress
    • ↓ U3: 3.1 Interviewer / interviewee perspectives · 3.6 Etiquette and impression management

These are prepared to the same standard from the syllabus, the CE/EC angles and the suggestion deck (L4).

  7. Full-marks standard (L23): the order sets priority, not a cut-off. Every topic in the map is prepared so that any question the paper offers, including all choices, can be answered.

Unit importance (historical evidence, NOT a fixed weightage: L15)

Unit Title Topics Asked topics Questions Papers asked in Marks (all yrs) Avg % of paper Range across years Rank
1 Soft Skills: An Introduction · Self-Discovery · Positivity and Motivation 12 8 23 3/3 112 33% 24% – 41% 2
2 Interpersonal Communication · Public Speaking · Group Discussion · Non-Verbal Communication · Teamwork and Leadership Skills 14 10 33 3/3 150 45% 36% – 57% 1
3 Interview Skills · Presentation Skills · Etiquette and Manners · Time Management · Personality Development 10 8 12 3/3 74 22% 18% – 29% 3

Unit volatility: marks per unit in each paper (% of that paper)

Unit 2022-23 2023-24 2024-25
1 46 (41%) 27 (24%) 39 (35%)
2 46 (41%) 64 (57%) 40 (36%)
3 20 (18%) 21 (19%) 33 (29%)

Unit rotation check (L25): does a heavy unit drop next year, and a light unit rise?

Rule tested: a unit more than 3 points above its average share → expect it to go DOWN in the next paper; more than 3 below → expect UP. ✓ = it happened, ✗ = it didn't.

Unit Avg share 2022-23 → 2023-24 2023-24 → 2024-25
1 33% 41%→24% · expected ↓ ✓ 24%→35% · expected ↑ ✓
2 45% 41%→57% · expected ↑ ✓ 57%→36% · expected ↓ ✓
3 22% 18%→19% · expected ↑ ✓ 19%→29% · expected ↑ ✓

Back-test: 6 of 6 calls correct (100%): the rotation pattern holds only weakly in this subject's papers. Caveat: the average includes the years being tested, so with few papers this flatters the hit rate a little.

Next-exam unit outlook (L25: from the latest paper, 2024-25, vs each unit's average)

Unit Title Avg share Latest share Gap Outlook for next exam
1 Soft Skills: An Introduction · Self-Discovery · Positivity and Motivation 33% 35% +1.5 pts → steady
2 Interpersonal Communication · Public Speaking · Group Discussion · Non-Verbal Communication · Teamwork and Leadership Skills 45% 36% -8.9 pts ↑ likely UP
3 Interview Skills · Presentation Skills · Etiquette and Manners · Time Management · Personality Development 22% 29% +7.4 pts ↓ likely DOWN

Outlook = priority tilt only. Every unit is still fully prepared (L15, L23): MAKAUT's split stays partly random, and confidence in the tilt follows the back-test above (100% on 6 calls).

Questions for CP3

  1. S list size. 15 of 35 topics are S because, with 3 papers, "≥ 60%" means 2 papers. Eight of them are descriptive in only one paper (1.1, 1.5, 2.1, 2.8, 2.9, 2.10, 2.12, 3.3), and three carry very few marks: 1.5 has 3 (via a secondary), 2.12 has 6 and 1.1 has 7. Options:
    • (a) keep the standard rule (recommended, the same choice as in ML, CP3 Q1)
    • (b) for this subject, require a descriptive question in ≥ 2 papers. S would become 7 (1.10, 1.11, 2.11, 1.6, 3.5, 1.2, 1.7) and the other 8 would drop to A.
  2. Does the picture match your experience? Unit 2 heaviest, motivation theories every year, NVC and the communication process as the next big topics, presentation questions in Group C.
  3. Rotation tilt. The back-test is weak (6 calls), so I've applied only a light tilt (Unit 2 first within each tier, Unit 3 last). Keep it, or drop the tilt for this subject?
